Sunday Morning’s message 6th of July 2025

John 14:1-6 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Spoken in the final 48 hours before the cross, Jesus assures His disciples—and us—that He Himself is the only way home to the Father. In a world filled with anxiety, confusion, self-reliance, and comparison, Jesus offers a clear path to eternal life and present peace. He doesn’t merely show the way—He is the way. He doesn’t just speak truth—He is the truth. He doesn’t only offer life—He is the life. This study will explore the depth of this “I AM” statement, reminding us of our eternal hope and the deep rest found only in Christ.

Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled

John 14:1–2 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”

Jesus speaks these words knowing His own suffering is near, and yet His concern is for His disciples. Their world is being turned upside down. Like us, they had fears, uncertainties, and emotional turmoil. Jesus doesn’t shame them—He comforts them. The same invitation is extended to us: bring your worries, your unknowns, your fears—and trust fully in Him. He is preparing a place for you, and that changes everything.

Discuss:

  • What reasons might the disciples have had to be troubled?

  • How does trusting Jesus help bring peace in the midst of those things?

My Father’s House Has Many Rooms

John 14:2–3 “My Father’s house has many rooms… I am going there to prepare a place for you. I will come back and take you to be with me…”

Jesus paints a picture of “home.” Not just a building—but a place of belonging, security, and rest. His promise is not only of a future destination, but also of His presence. Jesus wants us with Him. We often search for rest in achievement, success, or approval, but deep rest is only found when we know we are truly “home” with God.

Discuss:

  • How does knowing Jesus is preparing a place for you affect your sense of peace and purpose now?

  • Where do people commonly look for “home” apart from God?

I Am the Way

John 14:4–6a “‘You know the way to the place where I am going.’ Thomas said… ‘Lord, we don’t know where you are going…’ Jesus answered, ‘I am the way…’”

Jesus doesn't offer a map—He offers Himself. The disciples had left everything to follow Him. Their question was deeply honest—how do we get to where you’re going? Jesus’ answer is exclusive and personal: I am the way. He bridges the gap we could never cross ourselves. He brings us to the Father.

Discuss:

  • Why is it significant that Jesus says He is the way, rather than showing it?

  • What does it mean for us to walk in “the way” of Jesus?

I Am the Truth

John 14:6b “…and the truth…”

Jesus reveals the Father perfectly. If we want to know what God is like, we look to Jesus. He shows us truth through mercy, justice, and love. The truth is that only Jesus’ righteousness can make us right with God.

Discuss:

  • How does Jesus’ life show us the heart of the Father?

  • What does it look like to live in the truth of who Jesus is?

I Am the Life

John 14:6c “…and the life.”

Eternal life begins now—not just when we die. Jesus gives us life that is full, strong, joyful, and Spirit-filled. But striving, comparing, and listening to the lies of the enemy drain that life. Jesus invites us to live freely as loved sons and daughters—restored, renewed, and secure in Him.

Discuss:

  • What are some lies that rob us of the life Jesus offers?

  • How does Jesus give you life in your day-to-day journey?

No One Comes to the Father Except Through Me

John 14:6 “No one comes to the Father except through me.”

This final phrase is bold and direct. In a culture that celebrates personal truth, Jesus insists that He alone is the way to the Father. He is not one of many options—He is the only door home. But this truth is not harsh; it’s an invitation from a God who longs to bring us into His presence forever.

Discuss:

  • Why do you think this statement from Jesus is so confronting to modern culture?

  • How can we share this truth in a way that is both bold and full of grace?

Closing Prayer and Reflection

Invite the group to reflect (silently or aloud):

  • What part of Jesus’ words do you need to hold onto today?

  • What does it mean to fully trust Jesus as your way, your truth, and your life?
