Foundational Beliefs - What we believe at citywestchurch

The Inward Empowerment of the Holy Spirit

At citywestchurch we believe that when every person becomes born again they a believer and a follower of that has have the Holy Spirit living inside of them. This is where God by his Spirit starts his transformation and sanctification prosses in us. Each believer has the Holy Spirit dwelling in them for fellowship. Fellowship means -  partnership, friendship and the practical work of the Spirit in us.

2 Corinthians 13:14

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all

1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own

The Holy Spirit is called the ‘comforter’ by Jesus. This means he helps us, strengthens us and he intercedes for us like a lawyer in a court room. He guides us and is always with us leading us into all God has created us to be. The Holy Spirit is seal inside of us that we are under new ownership.

Ephesians 1:13

When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit

The Outward Empowerment of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit was promised to the church and believers long before Jesus changed everything on the cross. In the old covenant the Holy Spirit came down on people for great exploits and in the new covenant the Holy Spirit lives in us and flows through us.

It is powerful to think that the Holy Spirit is described as a river flowing out of us. This river flows from us to bring life, refreshing and hope to others.

John 7:37-39 (Jesus made this promise)

On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given since Jesus had not yet been glorified.

We also have received power for service, ability and for the fight. You and I have been given a task to reach the lost for Jesus.

Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

God loves humanity and desires that no one perish and that all would come to salvation
